Yarapa River Natural Expeditions (3 days / 2 nights)

Overnights in camping equipment / Day and night explorations / Botanical walks, traditional medicine learning / Transportation by canoe through Yarapa and Cumaceba rivers / Piranha fishing and other species / Ornithology / Walks to see giant trees / search and observation of sloths and other mammals / Watching of gray and pink dolphins / Spotting of alligators / Local fishing techniques / Search and observation of various species of primates / Others.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1: Reception upon arrival at the airport or reception at your hotel in Iquitos. Transfer to Nauta city in a private car. Transportation by motor boat to Yarapa River Communal Reserve, on a two-hour and thirty-minute trip.

Witness the birth of the majestic Amazon River at the confluence of Marañón and Ucayali rivers. Entrance to Yarapa communal reserve. During the trip you will be able to watch some species of pink and gray dolphins (bufeos) and different kinds of birds. Typical lunch on board (box lunch). First activity when entering the reserve in the afternoon, search for sloths and iguanas.

Search for a strategic area to camp and settle.

Exploration on foot at night to look for tarantulas, scorpions, bullfrogs and nocturnal insects.

Search for mammals such as pacas and agoutis.

Dinner in the jungle.

Spend the night in camping tents or shelters built by the hands of the own visitors.

Day 2: Wake up by 5 am to navigate by canoes and watch the sunrise and be able to watch and talk about some important species of birds that are in the area, such as macaws, prehistoric birds, herons, kingfishers, flycatchers and some dozens more.

Breakfast in the camping area. Exploration through the jungle looking for and monitoring various species of primates such as howler monkeys, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, huakaris and others. Identification of these through their own sounds and behaviors.

Departure and search for our second camping area.

Lunch in the middle of the jungle.

Hike or navigation (depending on the season of year) through the jungle towards a lake (cochas), opportunity to see giant trees and learn about medicinal plants and their application today. In addition, survival knowledge and practice such as searching for food, searching for drinkable water from plants, recognition of signs and orientation tactics in the middle of the jungle.

Dinner in our second camping site.

Night expedition by canoes to search for alligators on the river banks, also it is possible to see nocturnal birds. High percentages of finding snakes like anacondas and other animals.

Artisanal night fishing practice using jungle tools such as harpoons and/or bows and arrows.

Spend the night in camping tents or shelters built by the hands of the own visitors.

Day 3: A second early departure by canoes. Opportunity to listen and recognize other possible species of birds and their respective sounds.

Breakfast in the camping area.

Also search for giant river otters while we navigate this river.

Observation of the well-known “Victorias regias”, giant water lilies, unique in their kind.

Fishing practice for "piranhas" and/or other species. Tasting of them during lunch.

Lunch in the jungle.

Free time to enjoy the refreshing waters of Yarapa or Cumaceba river, using our amusement equipment, such as floating sticks and floating chairs, while watching more dolphins around us.

Return to Nauta city then return to Iquitos.

  • Excludes: Air tickets, airport taxes, Flashlights or headlights, plastic raincoats, tips, handicrafts, carbonated or alcoholic beverages and explorations not mentioned in the program.

SHELTERS AND CAMPING SITES AND OTHER SERVICES

  • Accommodation

Comfortable camping sites located at the river banks within Yarapa river communal reserve. camping tents are used. In addition, adequate mats and sleeping bags are provided for each visitor.

  • Transfer

From Iquitos city, cars or mini vans are used according to the number of people. The excursions to the communal reserve of the Yarapa river are aboard a boat on the river, the boats are made of wood, with low-power engines to avoid consequences for the environment.

  • Food

The meals are based on fish, chicken, beef and other meat typical of the area. Particular diets (vegetarian, vegan, kosher) must be communicated in advance.

  • Guides and excursions

The guides are local people, raised in the Peruvian rainforest, with extensive and sensitive knowledge of Amazonian ecology and culture. Guides can explain about the rainforest, showing skill to survive in the jungle, showing important trees, flowers, plants and home remedies. And help to identify species of birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies and other insects.

  • Location

It is located in an important area within Loreto-Peru. At the confluence of Marañón and Ucayali rivers.

Within this important area, you can find some native communities, which actively participate in the care and protection of natural resources and tourism in this reserved area. Also numerous rivers, large lakes and flooded areas (only in winter).
